Had a super day! Jason was the only one without any Carnage and Ken got in a Pickle on Pickle Gulch. I didn't take too many pics so I'll let Mitch (Suzy Homemaker /since he made breakfast) do the trip report if he is willing! I'll open a folder on Photobucket.

Yeah, and I didn't hear anyone complaining, either. :P

I'll get the pix uploaded tonight and a trip report. Jason, can you PM me Matt's e-mail so I can get some pix to him?

Its labeled Jenny Creek 6-28-08. It wouldn't let me add the other trails. Too many letters. Did Ken finally get his Lip rolled up on the way home? laughing

He did. A hug, a pat on the head, and a "Buck up, little camper!" made everything right, again.

Trip Report! Guys, lemme know if I missed anything.

In attendance: Dan B., Ken, Mitch (shotgunning with Ken), Jason, Jason's cousin Matt, and Matt's youngest son (What's Matt's son's name?) (Both shotgunning with Jason).

We all met at the Highway 93/72 junction between 6:30 and 7 AM.

The day started off pretty chilly and overcast, but it turned out to be a really beautiful, mostly sunny day, with some periods of chilly weather. We got to the Moffett Road sign, aired down, and began our ascent.

The beginning of the way up Jenny Creek was pretty uneventful. The roads were clear, but bumpy.

The first snow drift we came to blocked the main passage, but we were able to bypass it by going up the side route. The 2nd snow drift Dan got through fine, Jason got stuck and winched himself out by using Dan's Jeep as a weight, and Ken just needed some spotting to get through.

The 3rd snow drift we came to was the worst. The snow pack looked somewhat solid, but the snow grade was just too steep, so that it wouldn't take much for any vehicle to just slide into the rock face on the low end of the snow pack. A 4WD ATV made it over, but there was a 2WD ATV that we had to get out of the way for Dan to be able to start. Dan got maybe a quarter of the way in before he started sliding down towards the rock face. He had to back out the rest of the way and ended up scraping up one of his rims. Nothing that he won't have fixed before the weekend's over.

After we got ourselves turned around and were headed back to check out Mammouth Gulch, Jason got stuck, again, in the 2nd snow drift. He couldn't be just winched out this time. We had to dig some snow out and then winch him out. But we got to see an old Willy that was waiting for us to get through.

We aired back up at the Moffett Road sign before heading to Mammouth Gulch. Mammouth Gulch was a nice scenic drive that made you really glad to be in the mountains that day. We stopped at a locked gate on the side of the road and had lunch while Matt's son amused himself with throwing rocks in a big mud puddle.

After lunch we headed up to Pickle Gulch. Some steep inclines, but nothing a stocker couldn't get up. We hit our first obstacle that had some nice outcroppings of rock at the top. Dan and Ken made it up without a hitch, Jason skidded tires just a little at the top, but didn't need to be winched this time.

A bit past the first obstacle, Ken and I heard a loud *POP* that we both thought was his CB mic hitting the center console; getting dislodged from all the sideways bouncing on the trail. Drove couple feet and heard some grinding. Dan came down from where he was, saw some nice shiny bits, and announced to Ken that he was the proud new owner of a broken Rubicon Axle. We held up a couple vehicles while Dan was taking out the busted axle, but they waited patiently and stood around with the rest of us watching Dan do all the work. Within the timespan of three John Denver songs, The tire was taken off, the axel pulled out, holes plugged up with rags and a plastic bag, the tire put back on, and we got ourselves turned around and back on the trail to head home.

After we got back on the highway, Ken treated Dan and the rest of us to a beer at the chic little Wondervu Cafe & Gift Shop. After that, we all headed back home.

A pretty eventful day for some and a really good day to have gotten out of the house and enjoy the mountains.

What happened? By that I mean what were you doing when it broke? Wheel spin to sudden stop? Good thing you were with such great guys.

The factory Rubi axle shafts are garbage! The use a D44 inner and a D30 outer with no circle clips. The ears stretch and the caps shoot out. Super common on the Rubis because of the factory lockers. Best thing to do is get it replaced under warranty and then order up some Alloy axles with the 30 spline outer conversion with a 15 Yr no questions warranty. I spit my stockers too on just some 33's on a straight loose hill with less than 6,000 miles on mine so I went with the Super 44 kit to make her a 44 all the way out.
